The only author I've ever actually made a point to read the books of is Stephen King. Of course with each book I read there's one less available that I haven't read...and my list of "haven't read yet" is really dwindling so I've finally decided to try branching out. I tried googling "scariest books" but it seems the scariest books people post about online are all by Stephen King. So in true Kristina style, I googled "most disturbing books" and came up with a few possibilities (two of which are Pig Island by Mo Hayder and Johnny Got his Gun by Trumbo Dalton - anyone read these?) Somewhere during my searches I came across a novel called Ghost Story by Peter Straub. I realized a movie that I saw a year or two ago that I enjoyed was loosely based on the novel so I decided to give it a try. Of course of all the King novels I've read, the two he co-wrote with Straub are both on my "haven't read yet" list so this is my first exposure to Straub. I'm halfway through Ghost Story and I'm glad I decided to read it. His writing style is very similar to King's so I'm finding it very easy to read and I'm really enjoying the story. I have 4 novels in mind that I'd like to read after this (the two I mentioned above plus Little Children (unsure of the author offhand) and King's newest one Under the Dome) but somwhere in between them I'd like to look into other novels by Straub. Does anyone have any suggestions?
